The original Platinum Fitness...

...was a very humble few hundred square feet in Montecito, but over time we outgrew it - not just the square footage, but our ambitions too. We wanted more think-tank room to experiment, and we found the perfect spot two miles away in Summerland in an old two-story Victorian that looks out at the Channel Islands. In our huge turf-covered “backyard” we do strength, power and plyometric training, and we have a cardio room with the best machines in the industry such as the Versa Climber, Concept 2 SkiErg, the Aero Dyne bike, top-of-the-line treadmills, as well as elliptical machines, bikes and more. Upstairs we have yoga, massage, and pilates rooms, and Summerland itself is an outdoor gym with steep hills we make full use of for interval training.

FOUNDATION TRAINING

Eric Goodman and I developed Foundation Training at Platinum...

...a series of postures, poses and movements designed to repair poor movement patterns which are a leading cause of lower back pain. At Platinum, Foundation Training remains a starting point for new clients, whether they’re pro athletes, young moms, doctors, lawyers. Everyone needs to move right again before progressing.

Second Journey is the phrase...

...I use to describe people who've lived life, have suffered set backs, but want to get strong and healthy again. I work with a lot of people in their 40s, 50s, 60s even some in their 80s who are stronger now than they were 40 years ago. Strength training’s what keeps them on the bike, on the trail, in the water – and out of the doctor’s office.

I'm fortunate to work with some of the top athletes in the world like Giancarlo Stanton...

...Justin Verlander, Diana Taurasi, Ken Roczen, Lakey Peterson. As talented and gifted as they are I start them all off at the same place I begin with every client I take on: unweighted movements until I get them moving right.

One of the best experiences I've ever had as a trainer was a five-year project with 5 baseball players starting when they were in 8th grade.

Bryce, Trevor, Dalton, John, and Kevin. All had ambitions to play high school and maybe college ball. Maybe even win scholarships, who knows? Over the course of the five years I trained them, they developed into some of the fittest, strongest athletes I’ve ever worked with. All five played in high school, and all five earned college scholarships: Dalton at Brown, Bryce at Westmont College, John at UC Irvine, Trevor at the University of Hawaii, and Kevin at UCLA. But Kevin turned it down, because he got drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies. That group batted 1000.
